For me as a male what an amazingly confusing topic the "EGO".
I have a background in Psychology which adds confusion to the definition.
I have a background, present, and future with the battle of pride, glory confusion.
I have a deep appreciation for people and I value myself create role confusion.
I struggle with fear, confusion with the use of unhealthy ego defenses.
This seems an area with confusion surrounding to go to higher sources for answers. I have chosen to write on two:
1) God. Yes it is my blog and I will write on this topic as my freedom of speech allows. I once heard it said that EGO stands for Edging God Out. It is a catchy phrase to remind oneself to be humble when the EGO is sensed. On a deeper level. It is a reminder of the basic Ten Commandments. To give all glory to him who has provided everything for us. It is a difficult thing to do. Deep within all of us is the innate desire to feel important. This is healthy. When one desires to feel more important then others it is puffed up, prideful, and the EGO has Edged God Out. I am preaching here I mentioned earlier this is a never ending battle.
-Great question to ask constantly: "Who am I giving credit to here?"
2) I use a lesson I learned once that I was reminded of by John C. Maxwell in one of his phenomenal works. Ego is not so much thinking that you are so much greater then everyone else, it is thinking everyone else is less important then you. Studies have shown that we think of ourselves 86% of the time and others only 14% of the time. It only stands to reason to balance out the level of importance we give the all mighty self is to get into action and to serve others more. There is a great reward for this, the problems tend to fall out of one's life as genuine service is rendered.
-Great question: "What can I do for others today that they cannot do on their own?"
