Tell the voice to shut up!

You talk to yourself, come on admit it, there is no embarrassment in it, its normal.
The main thing about talking to yourself more then anyone else does is to understand the power of this. The number one strongest influence in your life is probably not who you think it is, it is your voice. The voice takes on different tones based on who or what is influencing you. If you are around motivating people and go to do a task then the message and tones from the voice is- come on you can do this. If you are around negative miserable people then the voice is going to tear you down. It seems strange but not only do you talk to yourself, your voice is one of the components that defines who you are as a person.
You might need a few exercises to start to bring an awareness to this voice.
The emotions that you have are greatly influenced by the thoughts that you think, and the thoughts that you think are greatly influenced by the voice, the self-talk that you have. But we should back up further, stay with me, the self-talk that you have is greatly influenced by the philosophy you have about yourself and how you fit in your environment.
You will never rise above the definition you have for yourself. This is further proof that thoughts are things. They can be the chains that anchor you down, or the wings that elevate you to rise above.
So what if you define yourself in a way that is keeping your imprisoned by negative self talk. It is not merely enough to begin talking to yourself differently. Simply telling yourself you are succeeding in life's key areas if you are really producing poor results does not produce long term change. This is a good start but it tends to be delusional if your definition at the core of yourself is not congruent.
This next part may offend, if it does please take it or leave it, it has to be said:
In order to change your self talk you have to back up further and view yourself in a way that God sees you. You are his child. You are infinitely powerful. On days that you feel the greatest inside and you see glimpses of your potential he has placed that vision in your heart.
Keeping this in mind let me share some steps for a workshop I have been developing:
1) Grab a notepad, something you can carry with you discretely
2) For one day, make a mark every time you are consciously aware you are talking to yourself. This is a pass-fail activity, if you participate you pass if you don't well commit to doing it again. The main purpose for making a mark for each time you hear yourself talk is to bring an awareness.
3) The activation step, Define the ideal you. This can be done many ways but I created a worksheet that works amazingly at allowing and giving yourself permission to see the ideal you.
4) Copy on a sheet of paper some characteristics of the vision you have for you. I have an affirmation worksheet to "Pop" the emotions (activating ingredient) from the exercise.
5) The next day after noticing yourself having self talk of any kind pull out your definition of the ideal you, pull the sheet out and see if the self-talk works for your vision of you
6) If it does not tell the voice to "SHUT UP".
7) Go back to the activation affirmations and replace the gap of thought with your "philosophy" or vision of you.
8) Act as if. The emotions resulting from affirmations are strong.
9) Create a habit of some successful activity to re-enforce this affirmation, again I have a worksheet to help with this.
10) Create this habit of being good to you. You will be with you for the rest of your life. Do want to elevate and edify yourself towards the ideal you or tear yourself down and be the victim of a negative philosophy or definition of yourself?

Overcoming Emotions

There is a gift that is given to everyone who overcome there emotions.
When you were younger you put off the homework, the chore, the paper, then you do it. What happened when you finally got to it. Most of the time when it was over you realized half the things you worried about never happened in the process, you got it done much quicker then you thought, and like me, you may have even thought wow if I would have known it was that easy I would have gotten started a long time ago and just gotten it over with.
There is a gift that is given when we do what our emotions are trying to control us and tell us we should put off. It is the gift of momentum and self efficacy. This is a very short entry but these two keys are so crucial for success. They will take on their own topic in future articles.

to be continued. . .

Lessons From Walden Pond

Walden Pond is a place I will visit soon. What an amazing area to have taught some of the amazing writers so much. When you look to two of these Emerson and Thoreau, you can find the lessons that are so applicable today. It is where Emerson discovered to "double your success, double your rate of failure."
Thoreau purchase a small plot of land with a modest cabin. He was a great book keeper so we know it was purchased for $26 dollars. He moved there for a couple years and lived off the land. The conclusions he brought to us that many could use is that there is really only four things anyone needs to survive. Survive is not a good word for what this great man did in those few years. He thrived. Four things everyone needs-
1) Food
2) Clothing
3) Shelter
4) Fuel
This doesn't mean extravagance, but I can tell you many of the economic hard times have been caused because people have placed these top 4 priorities at risk, or taken no thought for them whatsoever as they attempted to keep up with the "Joneses"
In the book "The millionaire next door" you will find those who have the wealth in this country do not live in homes worth more than 350,000 dollars on average. The average car of the Millionaire in the eighties was a station wagon. Today it is a pickup truck.
There is such a profound point here that I am pointing out there for food for thought. There has been a country that has lived outside of its' means for so long that it has become a generational sickness. Finally over the past two years there has been scarcity that was hidden at first very easily now you cannot turn on the news without seeing it.
Giants of Business have been paying their workers on credit causing forced government buy outs when stock markets crash.
Now let me take you for a turn in your thinking.
This is great news. This means a redistribution of the wealth. There were more new millionaires created during the depression and the few years that followed then at any other time.
Small business owners call to action. Get those 4 priorities handled, cut down on the unneeded expenses and charge the hill. The fact is while the shift of wealth occurs for the red-taped corporations the needs of the public abound. Recognize this and fill the needs. Treat your customers well they are your lifeblood. You serve them and you will create a steady income that you have not dreamed about on your most ambitious days.

EARLY, EARLY

When I meet with people who often think they need help. I always get similar responses. "I am trying the best I can". "If only I had more time", "If only. . ." "If only. . ."
Usually every complaint, reason or excuse they give are things that are way out of their control. These are things they are attempting to change but have little or no influence over in their present state of living. I chuckle because I am preaching here, I am not a hundred percent on what I usually suggest, and I am usually pretty candid about it.
When the humility sets in is usually when I begin asking a few key questions. This will amaze you how basic they are but I ask them in order to challenge fundamental philosophies. The first question I ask is what time are you going to bed? I then ask what time are you getting up?
This whole discipline or lack of comes from a very real fact that can never be debated with any validity at all. Everyone has 24 hours a day. The same 24 hours. The only difference between those who are succeeding and failing in life is what they are doing within those 24 hours.
Early to bed and Early to rise. . . Makes a ____ wealthy and healthy and wise? Could it be this phrase has hung around for a few thousand years for a reason.
There is always a season even in farming when the farmer stays up late to plant and cultivate, but the difference is that it is carefully planned out.
There is a certain discipline of going to bed before the party is over, before the last song is played that goes against the popular thinking of the masses. Well do you want to do what the masses do and have what the masses have? I just read about the 5 o'clock club. Certain individuals you and I know and admire for being masters in their field are a part of this club. Michael Jordan had a 5 o'clock group of individuals that were weight lifting early, they were called the breakfast club and at first a little teased for their devotion, doesn't seem it would make sense to do it now. Donald Trump gets up to get the very first set of eyes on a paper that he has specially delivered right after it comes off the press. The Williams sisters did not sleep in until 10 in the morning to leave the legacy in tennis that they now have.
The same 24 what will you do with it?

To Be the Moon Not the Sun

There is a concept that was brought to my attention this weekend by an individual I respect greatly. I am going to free-verse about it. I will also make it general in its Religious principles of truth but I believe it is pertinent in life.
There is an idea that in order to really excel, to create huge significance we must be the center of attention, the be all end all. I did not notice how untrue and destructive and for me sacrilegious this was to the extent that I understood it this weekend. While I was picking the brains of some very wealthy men and doing an inventory I realized as an analogy was given.
There is light that rules the day and lights that rule the night. So many of us attempt give off light and be the light. Instead of reflecting light as the moon does at night. This is probably so vague that you may be either confused or deep into the analogy. There is a pride that exists today that people feel they should be perfect, represent the expert, be the story. When I meet someone who is wrapped up in their story I am not attracted to that at all. . .
Here is the point. In life it is better to reflect light of a greater cause, organization, movement then to be the focal point. This is displayed by all great leaders. Every great leader was first a follower of the cause. They then became a conduit of the truth of that cause and spoke to it not themselves. There was a degree of humility so they weren't blocking the big picture by placing themselves in front of it.
If you are frustrated with the results you are getting. Get outside of yourself, learn to tell the stories of people you know, learn to tell the results of your organization, and learn to recognize the mission or purpose of the plan and go about reflecting light.
We were not intended to be the Sun, we were intended to be the moon reflecting the light from the Sun. Make it a habit today to find a cause greater then yourself in all that you do and become a reflector a promoter of that cause. I promise when you are actively engaged long enough when you look behind you, you will have many people following much more so than if you are simply promoting yourself.
Thank you Jeremy Roma.

Remove Your Emotions

Have you ever gotten through with a task that you put off and put off and put off until it was no longer possible to put it off anymore. Then you complete the task and you look back and think was that it? What was I waiting so long to do that task for?
Do you know what was behind this? What prevented you from doing what you were totally capable of doing all along?
Emotions.
The primary emotion in procrastination is fear. Fear comes from a lot of different places but in procrastination it has its roots in perfectionism. Perfectionism says I cannot do this until its perfect. I cannot fail at this or else.
The emotion of fear is powerful, we all have it, we cannot avoid it. Courageous people do the 'thing' in spite of the fear. There is not an absence of fear for the courageous. Acting out of courage simply means more intense feelings may be felt all at once but the good news is that it is all at once. The person acting out of courage and personal power is not avoiding so as a result of embracing the challenge and acting in spite of emotion grows. Contrast this with the person that acts only a little or timidly or avoids acting at all.
The other emotions can be tempered if they are identified. Being overwhelmed, distract-able, frustrated. The best thing to do with these is to identify them and act anyway.
This seems so basic and simplistic. This is more powerful than you know.
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: "Do the thing and you will have the power." This was reworked as Nike put it "Just Do It". The thing that identifying the emotion does and doing the thing anyways is it is a practice in faith. Faith removes and conquers fear. The thing may not be done well or you may even fail but you are one step closer because you have ruled out the way not to do 'it'. This will allow you to see that failing is not the end of the world in fact it is necessary to succeed. There is no success without failures.
Remove the emotions and get the tasks done. The energy spent thinking will be more then if you attempt fail and develop the habit of doing again.

Emotions and Commitment

Most of our 'Committments' are made in a state of strong emotion. What I have learned from my mentor Mr. Self is that commitment is: doing the thing you say you are going to do long after the emotion you said it in has gone. This is commitment.
This is an awareness peice that is so neccessary for repeating throughout life. There have been so many times I have fallen short of a goal due to the emotions that take me off the course. The beauty of life is that life will keep giving you opportunities to try try again.
Test yourself. You know there has been something you have been resolving to accomplish, resolving to achieve. Something that you avoid looking at some times and other times it is the only thing you can focus on. Go through this simple process, so how you do. See if you can make the committment have the drive to accomplish it inspite of the emotions that follow in the act of attempting to accomplish it:
1) Set a short term goal, something you desire to accomplish
2) Write down the daily tasks that will be necessary to accomplish that goal
3) Schedule the time for these tasks, time you will be committed to (remember emotions will sidetrack as events that seem more important come along)
4) Only schedule the tasks for one week.
5) Every day before completing the tasks write the emotions that you are overcoming to do the task. If something else seems more pressing, distraction and anxiety over the other task may be the emotion. If it is hard to do because the end seems to not be accomplish in the task the confusion and disillusion emotions are being overcome. If it seems hard you are overcoming a fear and placing hope in the process.
6) Review at the end of the 7 days how you did.
7) Celebrate yourself for being in the process. Even if the end goal was not accomplished you are absolutely closer then before, even if you are finding out what doesn't work.
8) Plan Do and Review again and set out to improve on the results before. Eventually the right combinations of activities will get you to the goal.

It is crucial to understand that the majority of success is mastering emotions. When I am working with people I let them know that it is not going to be life events or what happens to you that will decide your level of success in any area of life. It will absolutely be the way you respond to what happens and the emotions you discipline to press forward.

The Right Associations

A mentor of mine was speaking on stage last night. He was one of the first people I met when I began working with the company that has changed my course in life. Mr. Eaton just recovered from the trial of Stage 4 Colon Cancer.
Follow me as I detail attitude and decision. You make the choice if associations are important. Without any symptoms showing a typical doctors check up reveals that Mr. Eaton is in the fight of his life. He is told that he has Stage 4 Cancer and that the odds are against him. As he has his day, yes his day only rocked with shock and pity. He decides, key word, to see for himself what type of chances he has. He does the research. He is a researching Attorney so he is able to discover more shocking news. Only 2% of the people ever make it and cheat death. This again rocks him for a short time. Then and this is key. He decides to find out the common thread with the 2%. This is what separates the classes from the masses. The common threads he went out to seek what allowed the small few to survive and then got busy. There are a lot of people reading this blog perhaps that have been affected by the horrible disease of cancer and for that I sympathize. I bring this true life story to celebrate life.
Mr. Eaton decided that he was going to be one of the 2% survivors. He found that they all had 3 things in common a strong desire to live, and a faith in the cure; were in relatively good shape (anyone who knows Mr. Eaton knows that while he is in his 60s he is probably one of the scrappiest men around); and had assembled a support team of doctors who were invested in the successful outcome. These were all 3 areas Mr. Eaton could wield control over.
This is not a story that ends after the first series of Chemotherapy, the 2nd, 3rd 4th, 5th. For 18 months Mr. Eaton has been through 26 series of treatments, his liver has been inflamed with dozens of tumors and he is walking miracle that the treatments were given that rapid fire in a short period of time. The amazing part is that the scans on Friday of this last week revealed that there are no longer traces of cancer.
To hear the story told is nothing short of inspiring. I had the privilege to sit on the same row as his daughter as he gave an hour long overview of our company to 200 guests less then a week after the disease being in remission. As I looked over and saw her expressions of relief, pride, and pain as she relived the pain of the last year and half. I knew right then the associations in life are the most important force determining success.
There is no reason to not decide today and then on a daily basis to be in the 2%.

How to Break Free (Any 5 years part 2)

So if the masses are doing one thing it must be right, right? It is one thing to do what is right a whole another ball of wax to do what is popular. This is the key.
If you do what the masses are doing during this current state of the economy you will miss it. Miss your chance to be one of the classes. The subject is how to break free. The number one thing that assists you in breaking free is you. The only reason you don't have everything that your heart desires is that you have decided it is no good for you, you are undeserving, or that you cannot attain it. I am an amateur on the Bible but it does say he did come that we may live life abundantly.
If this is difficult for you to accept then this is exactly the area you must work on for the rest of this entry to make sense.
The law of association and momentum. If I am constantly around people who tell me not to have it all that receive is selfish, to hold on tight to what you have. . . wow just in the writing I was feeling restricted.
The people I am around today believe in giving without restraint and to serve with all your heart. That what is given is in direct proportion to the service rendered. To bring value to those around you and receive the return on this investment naturally.
The biggest way to overcome the economic blues is to associate with people who are looking for the great opportunity in having so many needs to be met. Then with those needs to be met working their hardest to meet those needs.
The associations you keep over the next 5 years will determine where you stand over the next 20. What you listen to, what you watch on TV, who you are around, and the books you read. Your overall consciousness will be the key factor in your life.
Ask yourself: Are the people I'm around blaming. Are the people I'm around full of doom and gloom. What are my conversations about? What is the hope factor that I was able to feel with the people I was with? What was I watching or listening to today? Where was my awareness? Be very careful of your influences.

Any 5 Years

Any five years can make all the difference in the world. In the state of the economy currently any 3 years.
The amazing part about the economy is that people don't understand that this is the time to get busy. This entry is not about a quick fix. It is about a call to action. The compounding effects of ones' efforts right over the next 5-10 years are worth more then the next 40 years of work. The time is now to learn new skills, to develop new philosophies and to see the economic crisis as a blessing for those who will stand up and lead. Self-Discipline invested in a 5-6 skills today will mean an empire tomorrow. Cash is King and there is Giants being brought to their knees. The major corporations have been living on credit the same as the unwise stewards of family finance. There has never been a better time to purchase items at a low cost as a result. The 40 40 40 plan no longer works and job security is a joke. (40 years, 40 percent of what your worth, to retire on 40 percent of what you could not live on before you retired).
What does this all mean to you? Opportunity.
There is a fact that during the depression: There was a changing of the economic guard. There were more new millionaire made then any other time in history. There were more needs that could be creatively filled. Stock was bought at such a low cost that fortunes were made when it returned to normalized levels.
Why does the majority freak out. It is as simple as a difference in philosophy. The majority don't carry the philosophy to help them capitalize on the current state of the economy. They have bought into the fear. The people who make the most of this time will be those who have great momentum breaking free of the masses. Not small momentum GREAT momentum. You cannot for the next 3-5 years think act or do what the masses do. The associations must be refined and the awareness of what is must be sharpened.
Find out tomorrow how to break free with Great Momentum. Exactly how to start thinking healthy.

Posture

Posture is an amazing concept. I am not talking about how straight you physically stand, no slouching, but it could make for a good analogy.
As one of my mentors says it "Posture is knowing that where I'm going is better then where anyone else is going and I am going to get there with or without you coming along with".
In life too many people look to the reactions of their friends families and loved ones to decide if the direction they are heading is right, or for them. How sad is it that you are the only one who knows what can make you happy to the specifics of the details and you turn it over to someone else to decide.
Passion is killed by the practice of allowing outside forces to act on inner drive (that's mine). I believe that if I am truely to be happy, yes I need guidance, yes I need a group of individuals to assist and to help make it happen. All this is true, but. . . If I am to be truely happy I must clearly define what that will be. I must decide on a plan to get there and I must constantly check in with God and that plan to see if the charted course is going to get me there.
This is truely the only one to allow dreams to materialize. It is not unrealistic or impossible to be a millionaire, or even a billionaire in my mind with the current economy. The force of an individual who dreams big enough and then works passionately for those dreams with the great economy and changing of the old guard economics, we can truely do, be, and have anything. There is a shortage of people who are thinking this way so you imediately step into a field of POSTURE as soon as you begin to do so.

Overcoming Complacency

So to continue, how do you overcome that which is being fed to you how your subconcious is processing, and then the weakening of the mind seeing what reality is and you are now weaker.
Here are a few suggestions:
1) Play life like kids play on the playground, you see a superstar take "shot at the buzzer"- you go out and model it. As a kid and even today I imagined I was Jordan, and I believe I can fly.
2) Pick a book up and read. Break the cycle of adults who don't read. What is more harmful the individual who was never taught to read, or the individual that after high school never chooses to read? They both read the about the same amount of books right?
3) Be around a more positive crowd. I am not suggesting you end relationships, I am saying increase the time around people who do or have what you are aiming for in life.
4) Turn off the TV, the average mood of the TV watcher is slightly depressed. This study was prior to the economic issues, what do you think the average mood is now with CNN (constant negative news) pumping chaos and catatrosophy at high levels into the home.
5) Learn knowledge, needs to become activity knowledge. You have to fail in order to succeed anyway, so go get some failing done today. Learn something and go about applying it.
6) What are you listening to in the car? I believe a good audio in the car is like a conversation with the author. The beauty is she/he doesn't charge a ton while you take your time coming back to them.
7) Plan your day the night before. Vision is not mystical it is practical. (my quote) The nightly to do list we feed our subconcious before going to bed will amazingly reward us when we arise the next morning. The subconcious has worked on all the ways to make your goals come true.
8) Stretch. Right now reach high, higher as high as you can, now hold it. Stretch a little more. You were able to right? We don't stretch in life enough. Look for ways today to become a little more.

Affirmation

Faith, the ultimate in affirmation. Faith is two sided first we are given a principle to believe in then we apply ourselves to that principle at the level in which we do believe.
Affirmation. The subconcious mind, the direction of the soul. The weakness of this muscle for most is amazing. I will put to you that it is truely a muscle. The weight program is what we as the captain conciously feed it. Where does God fit into the picture? The picture is not complete without an outside influence on what we choose to feed the subconcious. Think about it in this fashion. . .
If I am always watching one thing on television and only one thing that is the sports channel what is my mind set on Sports right? Nope the watching of sports. You see if you have not acted on that which you take on it sits on your mind and your concious is aware but you do not reap the rewards of an athelete. The more sports that you watch and do nothing about the more you actually weaken you ability eventually over time in fact. The confidence you have in your own ability weakens over the space of time as you see the greats apply. Why do kids get better and better in sports at such a rapid rate?
Have you ever listened into there playground basketball games. They have gone out and applied the training. They don't simply watch the highlight reel they become the highlight reel. The guy wearing the hockey shirt that barely fits around his stomach because he has gotten so inactive since the 'glory days' fails to understand this truth. He probably still misses very few games but now as a spectator he is stimulating his subconcious with affirmations of grandeur and then it's over because as he gets up late at night after the game with the beer or even soda in his hand and potatoe chips and other manners of bad food the reality hits his concious, he is out of shape and as a continuous signal sent to his subconcious mind with the sports they combine and say you are an out of shape athelete. Then the interpretation the 'glory days' are gone now I live my life as a spectator is now programed. As an endless cycle it re-affirms.
This is rampant today. The majority of High School graduates, for example never pick up a book and read ever again. This is so scarey. Can you imagine the combination of the above sports for the former student. Those were the 'glory days' of my learning. I now gain my knowledge through the bits and peices I get from peoples oppinions, from the media whose agenda is not to educate, and through societies icons. Wow what a way to feed the mind, no wonder people can appear asleep in there comfort zone of complacency.
To overcome, is to return tommorow. . .

The Time Tested

In business for exposure one of the fundemental questions to always ask and assess is: How many times will the story about my product be told to new individuals that did not know about it either through an tool (media), myself, or someother individual working with me. If one can learn how to moniter this key number and never give up moving this number higher then the company can build a financial wall that no hard economy can ever break down.
This is truely the area that people miss and it is the most important area. A pasture at a church cannot continue to fill the seats without going to find new individuals looking for his message or having members of his church through word of mouth speak to the value they recieve from attending.
The next thing I will explore, since we did business and church is relationship. I am going to free verse. If it is the common tendency for us to feel valued honored and loved and we have no exposure to this from our partner or family then isn't it also possible that the returns could diminish as well. This is edgey and sensitive for some readers maybe but I'm just proposing an idea. If for example the husband and wife work hard in the begining and he tells her he loves her and twenty years later they are strangers in the marriage. When they begin examining this the wife turns to the husband and says I don't know if you love me, and he says of course I love you I told you that from the begining. She looks at him with hurt in her eyes and look as to say telling me one time was not enough for the diminishing effect of the years. Strictly free-versing isn't it true that the amount of ways that we can communicate love are endless, but it is the amount of times we tell our loved ones with subtlties through tones and small acts of kindness that builds the same fortress around our family that nothing can break through?

Purpose

Once you've identified your values, what you believe about what you know and what is important to you. Then you have sought out the vision or the desire in your heart and have the esteem or belief you can attain these visions (hope). Then it is time to seek out your purpose.

The purpose statement has been called many things. If you have heard of a mission statement then it involves purpose combined with what a person values and the hope or direction that the individual or organization desires to go in.

The why? When Victor Frankl wrote if a man knows his why any how becomes easy,(my own words paraphrasing) he was speaking to a purpose statement. Without purpose values and hope are dead. It is like what my mentor tells me purpose is what gets you up early and what will keep you up late.

The purpose of myself as a leader today looks different then I was granted positional athority. I know that it is the leaders responsibility and purpose to serve those around her/him. The amazing part about this is that it is the thing many times least on the leader's mind. The truth of where much is given much can be expected rings true here. The more individuals a leader has charge over, the more service rendered. The catch here with the purpose of the leader is that the more expected the better and more efficient the leader must become. The balance is operating in service efficient enough, but still appearing approachable and available. Superman cape is rarely included but the philosophy of: You can determine the size of the leader by the size of the problem that defeats them.

What is your purpose? Why so much talk on leadership with purpose involved? Find the answer to the first and for you the second question will be clear.

Value

I remember teaching a class once and asking what people think of when they hear the word value? The responses were on point so I will list a few of them here. Value- what you hold as important, standards, your own esteem, your belief systems, moral code, principles to live by. I am going to stop here but I believe that the participants really had the right idea. Let's look at life without values, or with a skewed decaying value system.

I don't know a person who does not feel the urge to feel valued, or important. This is a natural drive of everyone. It is a driving factor that allows people to feel needed. To esteem someone as valuable and to treat them with this esteem can make you a great deal of friends, take this esteem away and you may make an enemy from the precieved disrespect. If you were to ask some of the most hardened criminal enough questions about their actions, at the heart of the calculated crimes would be the urge to feel important.

Also take an external internal value. If you believe in honesty and integrity and you act dishonestly you have a dilema Psychologists like to call cognitive dissonance. In otherwords you have acted outside of your beliefs. Values are so ingrained that one who did act dishonestly may even be accused of acting out of "character". Ultimately the reality is that if you act outside of your value system you will either have to lie- ration-lize rationalize your actions, or you will have to face up to the consequences of acting outside of your value system. One of the major consequences is the taking down of the way you may even esteem yoursel.

Take some time and write down your values. This are guidlines to gauge how you are performing in life. Share these values with another individual. Don't overwhelm yourself with comparing yourself to the values, there has only ever been one perfect person after all. Unstead use the values you've listed as another factor when weighing decisions in life.

I will give an example. Let's say you value attention. Many people if they get their ego out of the way can look at this one and say you know what I do like attention, it is a value that drives me. The individual who values attention probably should not be a Forest Ranger. The individual who values attention should work with people, should work in a high visibility setting such as a stage, a field, a classroom setting. This is a value. This is not all though. It should take some exploration for the individual to feel good inside about this value of why is it I value_____. This will allow more genuine values and the why that drives them to appear. This will also make the actions taken to live within the values done with more confidence.

I will tell you in closing if a person values money and looks at the reasons why this will even do away with money guilt. Money guilt is one of the largest obstactles preventing people from attaining the wealth they deserve.

Hope, Value, and Purpose (part one Hope)

There is an interesting element involved in every ones' life. Hope. It is not discussed enough. Hope has to many important elements to be something that is so rarely discussed. In the book "How Full is Your Bucket" the researchers examined concentration camps in Cambodia and Vietnamese areas. These camps were graded on the death toll, survivors conditions and other key factors. The amazing part is that most of the camps that had the more severe torture physically were the ones with the highest survival rate short of execution being the factor. The camps that had an element of mental and emotional abuse had the highest death toll. There was a condition that was named from this where prisoner of war would literally go and lie down in his tent and die due to the condition.
When they looked further you want to know what the number one contributing factor was? Hope. The soldiers were never allowed to unify, the Cambodian militants would influence a soldier to betray the troops. They would reward lying and deceit among the prisoners and as a result there was no clear vision or hope of who to look to for leadership. Yes these camps were prisoner of war camps and they were not ideal conditions. But they made other POW camps look like a 5 star hotel. The elements that were broken was the hope.
When I am working with a suicidal client one of the three elements missing is the hope. The reader knows this, it is why someone who is in this far extreme appears hopeless.
In my mind hope is a belief that one can effectively accomplish achieve or attain a goal or by the faith in and the intervention of someone greater they will be able to.
There are some key things that you can do to raise your level of hope. Small successes added up over time lead to great hope. If hope is what you are lacking in don't take to eating an elephant of a goal. Break your elephant down, see yourself completing the tasks necessary that you know you can and complete the tasks, as a result of hope your vision for the task will allow you to see a little further in the journey, your momentum will allow you to go a little further. Harness these to elements stretch a little further in completing the task and use the momentum and vision to assist you in writing the next steps.
