Once you've identified your values, what you believe about what you know and what is important to you. Then you have sought out the vision or the desire in your heart and have the esteem or belief you can attain these visions (hope). Then it is time to seek out your purpose.
The purpose statement has been called many things. If you have heard of a mission statement then it involves purpose combined with what a person values and the hope or direction that the individual or organization desires to go in.
The why? When Victor Frankl wrote if a man knows his why any how becomes easy,(my own words paraphrasing) he was speaking to a purpose statement. Without purpose values and hope are dead. It is like what my mentor tells me purpose is what gets you up early and what will keep you up late.
The purpose of myself as a leader today looks different then I was granted positional athority. I know that it is the leaders responsibility and purpose to serve those around her/him. The amazing part about this is that it is the thing many times least on the leader's mind. The truth of where much is given much can be expected rings true here. The more individuals a leader has charge over, the more service rendered. The catch here with the purpose of the leader is that the more expected the better and more efficient the leader must become. The balance is operating in service efficient enough, but still appearing approachable and available. Superman cape is rarely included but the philosophy of: You can determine the size of the leader by the size of the problem that defeats them.
What is your purpose? Why so much talk on leadership with purpose involved? Find the answer to the first and for you the second question will be clear.
